Wayne was a proud graduate of Greenbrier High School class of 1959. After high school he served in the United States Army. He worked in supervision at Dupont for many years and then became the supervisor of the waste treatment plant for the City of Greenbrier, where he retired in 2006.
Wayne had a big personality and never met a stranger. He always greeted ladies, “Hello Darlin’” and gentlemen, “Hello Pal”, regardless of if he knew them or not.
He had a great love for music that started at an early age. He was always listening to music, whether it be on the radio, TV, or his especially favorite and most recent, watching bands play live at various local venues with his long-time friends. In the 1970’s, he played guitar and sang with his family and friend band, The Desperados.
Wayne fiercely loved his family and friends. Everyone was always welcome at his home. He was known for having huge get-togethers in his beloved party room, often accompanied by a live band. Whether it be a fish fry, barbequing pork roasts, or a simple “just because we want to”, it was always a great time had by everyone.
He was also a great lover of cars, which throughout the years he had quite a few. He would speak often of all the cars he had over the years and tell stories of events that occurred during the time that he had each of them. His all-time favorite was his 1955 Studebaker Hawk.
He told many stories of his travels. Whether it was camping, boating, riding motorcycles, riding horses, there was always an interesting and often funny adventure he would recall.
We will all miss his incredible presence.
