Richard John Walton (“John Boy”) – Age 65 – McEwen, TN

Richard John Walton, lovingly known as “John Boy,” passed away on May 6, 2026, at the age of 65.

John was born on August 1, 1960, in Chicago, Illinois, to Thomas Eugene Walton and Melva Jean Walton. He spent his early years in South Lyon, Michigan, before moving to McEwen, Tennessee, at the age of 18 to help on the family farm on Poplar Grove Road.

John was a gifted carpenter who could build almost anything with his hands. He took great pride in his work and was always willing to help anyone in need. He loved fishing, hunting, antique shopping, and spending time outdoors. Those who knew him best knew he would gladly give the shirt off his back to help someone else.

John married Bekki Walton, and together they were blessed with three children: Keri (Mark) Ross, Justin (Ashley) Walton, and Kadi (Jared) Arnold.

Some of his children’s favorite memories were made on the family farm and along the banks of Martin Hole on Tumbling Creek, where countless hours were spent fishing, exploring, and simply enjoying time together.

Life was not always easy for John. He faced many struggles and hardships throughout his journey. Yet in his later years, he found renewed faith, peace, and a desire to rebuild relationships with those he loved. Through it all, his love for his family never wavered.

Perhaps no title brought him more joy than being “Poppy.” His grandchildren were the light of his life, and they will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

John was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Eugene Walton; his mother, Melva Jean Walton; and his brother, Thomas E. Walton Jr.

He is survived by the mother of his children, Bekki Walton; his children, Keri (Mark) Ross, Justin (Ashley) Walton, and Kadi (Jared) Arnold; his sister, Laurie (Mac) McCracken; his brother, Randy (Camie) Walton; and his beloved grandchildren: Jenny Ross, Jesse Ross, Julie Ross, June Ross, Kade Walton, Raelynn Walton, Kooper Arnold, and Kasen Arnold.

Though he made mistakes, John’s story is ultimately one of perseverance, redemption, and grace. He finished his race with faith and leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and cherished memories.

A Celebration of Life service will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Poplar Grove Church of Christ in McEwen, Tennessee. Family and friends are invited to remain afterward for fellowship and the sharing of memories until 8:00 p.m.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
