Lenville Morris “Len” Goodman died at his home in Helenwood early Wednesday morning, October 30, following a long illness. He was 83.
Len was the seventh of Morris and Eula Gertrude Harding Goodman’s nine children. He was born in the family’s Oneida home on March 19, 1941. He grew up in Oneida and attended the Oneida schools. After high school, he moved to Cincinnati where he went to work in the maintenance department of the Wm. Powell Co., a manufacturer of valves. He was proud to have worked for a company that produced parts for the Manhattan Project and the NASA space program.
Len Married Rebecca Ilene Matthews, a native of Stearns, Ky., on April 3, 1961. They raised their four children in Greater Cincinnati. They divorced in the early 1980s. She preceded him in death in May.
After he retired from Powell’s, Len returned to Oneida, where he helped care for his parents until their deaths. He became reacquainted with Thelma Kidd, a classmate from Oneida High School. They were together for more than 40 years. She was the love of his life.
Len was easy-going and quick-witted. He was known for his dad-jokes and could land a quip with perfect comic timing. He collected guns and coins, and he loved to play bingo and sing his favorite Country songs.
Len was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings: Kenneth John Goodman, Milford Earl Goodman, Betty Rose Hutson, Jo Ann Goodman Sexton, Kay Goodman Hicks, Gereda Fay Goodman, Paul David Goodman, and James Larry Goodman; and a son Timothy Wayne Goodman.
In addition to Thelma, he is survived by: two daughters, Rebecca Goodman and Vanesa Goodman Bell and her husband, Kevin.; a son, Michael Paul Goodman and his wife, Paula; a step-daughter, Ann Ooten; a step-son, Dwayne Kidd; granddaughters, Adrienne Taylor and her husband, Demetrius, McKenzie Worthington and her husband, Spencer, and Kirsten Wood; grandsons, Nicholas Billman and his wife, Elvimar Romero, Bradley Billman and his wife Amanda, and Jacob Billman and his partner, Chloe Bugni; a step-grandson, Allan Ooten and his wife, Bridgett; great-grandchildren, Avory, Isabella, Dailyn, Landon, Braden, Gavin, Alanis, Julias, Dazey, Easton, Liam, Kieran, Evelyn, Ella and Tucker; step-great-grandchildren, McKenzie, Zackery, Jager and Presley; two sisters-in-law, Ann Goodman and Kay Goodman; 16 nieces and nephews and their families.
Len’s remains will be cremated. Interment will be at Morris Goodman Cemetery in Oneida at a later date. A memorial service will be announced.
