David Larry Austin – Age 72 – Waverly, TN

David Larry Austin, age 72, of Waverly, Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord on July 21, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Though his body grew tired, his faith never wavered, and his spirit remained joyful and strong until the very end.

David was a devoted man of God who lived his life with purpose, passion, and an open heart. He never missed an opportunity to share the love of Jesus—especially with the next generation. Whether through mentorship, conversations, or simply living by example, he found great joy in teaching youth about Christ and helping them walk in faith.

He was also known for his love of good food and great fellowship. As the proud owner of Sunshine Cafe & Catering, a beloved BBQ business, David turned his passion for cooking into a way to bring people together. His smoked meats, warm smile, and servant’s heart made every meal more than just food—it was ministry.

Outside the kitchen, he was happiest in God’s creation—spending time hunting, fishing, and enjoying the peacefulness of the outdoors. He believed in soaking up life’s simple blessings and sharing those moments with others.

David was deeply loved by his family, friends, church community, and all who had the blessing of knowing him. He was a man of wisdom, laughter, and unwavering strength—someone who made others feel encouraged, seen, and cared for.

He is survived by his children Natasha Austin Noel and Ryan Austin, his granddaughter Killian Austin as well as by his siblings Debra Romano, Laura Daub, Johnny Cobb and Richard Cobb. His legacy of faith, love, and resilience will continue to live on in the lives he touched.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday August 23 at 1:00 to 3:00 pm CST, at Compassion Church Dickson, Tennessee.
3525 Hwy 70 W
Dickson, TN 37055

In honor of his heart for ministry and giving, the family encourages donations to be made to Compassion Church Dickson, Tennessee, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation in his memory.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7

Now fully healed and in the arms of his Savior, David is watching over us—smiling, probably grilling, and reminding us to keep our eyes on Jesus.
