Kathleen Gundy Rayburn – Age 76 – Franklin, TN

Rayburn, Kathleen Gundy “Kathy” – Age 76 of Franklin, TN. April 5, 1947, to March 10, 2024. Devoted mother, grandmother, educator, and friend. Preceded in death by parents John R. Gundy and Eleanor Joanne Gundy and siblings Mark Edward Gundy and Mary Joanne Gundy. Survived by brothers John Michael Gundy (Lila), Dallas, TX, and Peter Gerard Gundy (Debbie), Carmel, IN, and children Elbert Brevard Rayburn IV,Franklin, TN, and Jonathan Zachary Rayburn (Karyn) Austin, TX. Also survived by two grandchildren and five nephews and nieces.

Kathy, a member of Bishop Chatard High School’s inaugural graduating class in 1965, earned her bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College in Elementary Education and her master’s in education from Butler University. She commenced her career at Orchard Country Day School (now Orchard School) in Indianapolis, IN, as a teacher, later assuming roles as a psychologist and head of Support Services, ultimately serving as Interim Head.

Kathy relocated to Nashville, TN in 1995, to head Westminster School. Her tenure was marked by a commitment to research-based teaching methodologies to address learning differences and tailor strategies to individual student strengths. Under her guidance, Westminster School transitioned to an 83-acre campus in Brentwood, TN, evolving into Currey Ingram Academy.

Kathy’s personal legacy transcends her professional achievements, embodying her deep love for family, friends, and animals. Known for her sparkling eyes, warm embraces, and timeless elegance. Her home, a haven of delicious meals, laughter, and love, featured her signature chicken and mashed potatoes, and refreshing beverages on the porch. Each room was adorned with artwork and photographs that celebrated her family, creating a space that was as warm and inviting as her embrace. Kathy had a remarkable way of making everyone feel valued, radiating an enchanting presence that inspired all. Her kindness and generosity remain our guide. She will be profoundly missed.

Visitation: Saturday, March 23, 2024, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, St. Matthew Catholic Church, 535 Sneed Road W., Franklin, TN 37069. Memorial service to follow at 12:00 pm.
