James Edward Roche II

Age 68Waverly, TN1958 – 2026

Celebrating a life

James Edward Roche II, affectionately known as “Jim,” age 68, of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2026, following a battle with dementia.

Jim was born on February 8, 1958, in Nashville, Tennessee, to James Roche and the late Joan Roche. Throughout his life, he also called Lebanon, Tennessee and Florida home before eventually settling in Humphreys County, Tennessee.

Jim was the former owner of Fast Fuel/Kwik N Ezy convenience store in Waverly, Tennessee.

Known for his bold personality, quick wit, and unapologetic opinions, Jim was never one to shy away from a spirited conversation, especially when it came to politics or sports. Confident and outspoken, he had a softer side as well and was always willing to lend a helping hand to someone in need.

He was passionate about sports, particularly his beloved Dallas Cowboys and Vanderbilt Commodores. He enjoyed playing pool and golf, listening to classic rock, admiring classic cars, and soaking up the sunshine. He often reminisced about his glory days playing football and possessed an artistic side that reflected his creativity and appreciation for things done well.

Jim took great pride in his dream log home, taking a hands-on role in both its construction and its care over the years. The home was truly a labor of love, and he enjoyed the fruits of his efforts for approximately 25 years. He appreciated a job well done and took particular satisfaction in maintaining his home and its surroundings, including a beautifully manicured lawn.

Jim shared a special bond with his longtime friends and fellow Class of 1976 schoolmates, affectionately known as “The 76ers.” Their friendship held a special place in his life, and they will forever be an important part of his story.

As dementia progressed, it gradually stole Jim’s voice and much of the mind that had once been so sharp, outspoken, and full of opinions. Yet, even as the disease took so much from him, he continued to recognize the familiar faces of his friends and loved ones. Though words eventually failed him, those moments of recognition remained a meaningful connection to the people who knew him best.

Jim is survived by his wife of 26 years, Lori Davidson Roche; his father, James Roche; and three sisters, Cheryl Wunderlin, Kathy Clay (Randall), and Kristi Hill.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan Roche.

In accordance with his family’s wishes, Jim will be cremated, and no formal service will be held. His family encourages friends and loved ones to honor his memory in their own personal ways — whether by sharing a favorite story, raising a glass in his honor, listening to a classic rock song, or simply remembering the good times shared with him.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations to the Dementia Society of America in Jim’s honor, in the hope of supporting others affected by this devastating disease.

The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the many friends who visited Jim, checked in on him, offered assistance, or extended kindness and support throughout his illness. Special appreciation is extended to his sitter, Samantha Paddock, and to his hospice care team at Tennessee Quality Care in Camden, Tennessee, for their compassionate care and support during his final journey.

Jim lived life on his own terms, spoke his mind, and left behind memories as unforgettable as his personality.

Forever loved, forever remembered.
