Gary Wayne Reed died peacefully at his home in McKenzie, Tennessee, on Thursday, July 9, 2026. Gary was born on September 18, 1947, in Blytheville, Arkansas, to Jack and Lois Poff Reed. He was a member of the Blytheville High School Class of 1966.
After high school, Gary joined the United States Army Reserve. After fulfilling his duties, he began working at Hays Grocery Store in Blytheville. He later worked for Colonial Bread and eventually Lewis Bakeries which led him to McKenzie, Tennessee where he retired.
In 1972, Gary married Anna Vickers Reed, and together they shared more than five decades of marriage while building a life centered on family. He raised his daughters Tracy and Kristy in Steele, Missouri, before settling in Tennessee.
He loved sports of any kind. In high school, Gary played baseball, basketball, and football. He enjoyed watching his daughters and grandchildren play sports as well. He liked to golf and watch it on TV .
Gary was known for his gentle, easygoing nature and the deep love he had for his family. A devoted husband and father, his greatest joy was being “Paw Paw” to his grandsons, Jack, Ben, and Cooper. They were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them. His wife, daughters, and grandsons brought him immeasurable pride and happiness, and the time he spent with his family was what he cherished most.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Ricky Reed; and his sister, Cathey Reams.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years; his daughters, Tracy Lacey (Dennis) and Kristy Ward (Craig); his grandsons, Jack, Ben, and Cooper; his sister, Pam Reed Hughes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will remember him fondly.
A celebration of life and final resting place will be announced at a later date.
