Leroy Mays, age 90, of Hurricane Mills, TN passed away on November, 14 2025.
Leroy entered this life on September 16, 1935 in Raton, NM, born to the late Ray R Mays and Hattie McCracker. He sometimes would talk about adventures with his father, Ray, who was a well driller in northern California and then a welder working in the Navy shipyard in Mare Island, California.
Leroy worked for many years as a print press setter, until the company went out of business and he was laid off. He then started up and ran a janitorial service company with his wife Margie. They lived and worked in the bay area (Concord) of California, where they purchased Leroy’s pride and joy, a new 1966 Porsche 912, which he kept for over 50 years, until it was totaled in 2017, in a head on collision with an impaired motorist, who was driving in the wrong direction on the Interstate. They enjoyed weekend fishing trips to northern California.
In the early 2000’s, after the passing of his beloved wife, Leroy relocated to Northern California, to the town of Lucerne, which is located on Clear lake.
He is predeceased by his wife Margie, who passed away in January of 2001, his sister Naomie June Long, who passed in 2016 and his three older brothers. In 2021, he relocated to live with his daughter and son inlaw, Virgil and Marie Perry, in Hurricane Mills, TN. He enjoyed living in Tennessee, dining out with family and worshiping at the Waverly First Baptist church.
