Samuel Ralph Simpson, Sr., 88, of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away on October 20, 2025, at home surrounded by family. He was born in Waverly to the late Jay Don and Agatha Simpson. He graduated from McEwen High School and was married to his loving wife, Marcia June Burns Simpson, for 67 years.
Mr. Simpson proudly served in the United States Air Force, worked for E.I. DuPont, and later owned and operated his own successful ice business. His favorite days were spent coaching girls’ softball, where he made a lasting impact on many young lives.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia Simpson; daughter, Stephanie Graham (Jim); sons, Samuel Ralph Simpson, Jr. (Anji) and Michael Simpson (Angela); brothers, Lanier Simpson and Douglas Simpson; sisters, Ruby Dell England, Margaret Ann Nichols, and Sandra Stafford; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jay Don and Agatha Simpson; brothers, Jay Don (J.D.) Simpson, Jr., Robert Simpson, Don Carlos Simpson, and Harvey Seay Simpson; and sisters, Mildred Holland, Ethel Matlock, Martha Jane Curtis, and Roberta Lee.
Graveside services for family and friends will be held on October 30th at 1:00 PM at Anderson Cemetery.
