Stan performed many acts of service in high school and college, volunteering to test the quality of drinking water for families in Appalachia even while earning his Bachelor’s from the University of Tennessee. Stan wanted to help others by becoming a substance use counselor then Director of Mental Health Services at a newly established methadone treatment program in Nashville.
Switching careers in the early 80s, Stan foresaw the real estate market boom in Nashville. Stan was an empathetic and gentle man who loved his family very much. He taught his children empathy and compassion, which still resonates in the people they are today. Stan felt a personal and strong sense of social justice, displaying a lifelong commitment to political and social activism in the fields of nonviolence, civil rights, human rights, school safety and access to health care. His legacy will be carried on in acts of service by those that love and remember him.
